Pomona College Choir

The Pomona College Choir (MUS 31; half credit) boasts a membership of approximately 75-90 auditioned singers per semester, with student, faculty, and staff representatives from each of the Claremont Colleges. Its repertoire includes Western classical art music from all historical periods, with a certain focus on large-scale choral masterworks. Recent and especially memorable performances have included Handel's Messiah, Brahms's Ein deutsches Requiem, Berlioz's Grande Messe des morts, Bach's Christ lag in Todesbanden, Mozart's Mass in C minor (K. 427) and Requiem, Beethoven's Choral Fantasy, op. 80, Bernstein's Chichester Psalms (in Hebrew), Mendelssohn's Elijah, Orff's Carmina burana, Poulenc's Gloria, and Vaughan Williams' Dona nobis pacem, all performed with the Pomona College Orchestra or with professional instrumentalists from Los Angeles. The Choir also performs smaller works, including the music of John Tavener, Morten Lauridsen, Eric Whitacre, and many others.

Membership in the College Choir is open to all students enrolled at any of the Claremont Colleges by audition. The group rehearsals every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m. throughout the academic year.
